Breast Lift Tacoma

Dr. Roy Semlacher specializes in multiple cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery procedures, including the breast lift. His Tacoma patients have seen dramatic aesthetic and functional improvements with this treatment, reducing sagging and restoring perkiness to the breasts.

What Is a Breast Lift?

Also known as a mastopexy, a breast lift reshapes and lifts drooping breasts for a perkier and more symmetrical look. This involves removing excess skin, tightening and shaping internal tissue, and sometimes resizing and/or repositioning the areolae and nipples.

Am I a Candidate for a Breast Lift?

Many women notice a flatter, longer breast shape after one or more of the following life events:

  • Pregnancy/Breastfeeding
  • Significant weight loss
  • Skin losing its elasticity during the aging process

If you are still planning on having more children, Dr. Semlacher recommends waiting on breast lift surgery until your family is complete. Also, weight-loss patients actively working toward their goal BMI will need to hold off until their weight is more stable before seeking this type of care.

It’s important to note that mastopexy is meant to change the shape of your breasts, not their size. If you want to increase or decrease your breast size, Dr. Semlacher may suggest combining your procedure with a breast augmentation or breast reduction, respectively.

How to Prepare for a Breast Lift

If you are approved for breast lift surgery, you’ll need to abstain from smoking starting one month prior to your procedure. You may also need to temporarily stop taking certain medications, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, starting seven to 10 days beforehand.

What to Expect During Breast Lift Surgery

To begin the breast lift, the patient will first be given general anesthesia to make sure they feel no pain or discomfort during surgery. Dr. Semlacher will then make an incision on each breast. These incisions’ exact shape and size will depend on the patient’s unique anatomical needs.

Once these incisions are made, excess skin can be removed, and the internal breast tissue will be lifted and reshaped with sutures. If necessary, Dr. Semlacher will reposition and/or resize the areolae and nipples at this time. After all modifications are complete, the incisions are closed.

What to Expect After Breast Lift Surgery

After your surgery, you will have bandages or a compression garment on your breasts, which should be left on until your follow-up appointment. These allow for effective healing and ensure your breasts adhere to their new shape during recovery. Most patients report some swelling and soreness, which should subside over the next two to three weeks.

While you may notice an improvement right away, final results should be visible after a few months. The effects of a breast lift are designed to be long-lasting.

How Much Does a Breast Lift Cost?

The cost of a mastopexy depends on factors like how much breast tissue is removed and readjusted, as well as whether the areolae and nipples are moved. Combining a breast lift with an augmentation or reduction will affect the overall price.
