Mommy Makeover
Conveniently located to serve Tacoma and Seattle
If you’re unhappy with the appearance of your breasts and lower abdomen after childbirth, a mommy makeover in Tacoma may be right for you. This package of plastic surgery procedures is an ideal option for women seeking to restore their pre-pregnancy bodies.
Canadian board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Roy Semlacher is an expert in cosmetic/aesthetic plastic surgery of the breast and abdomen. His private practice in Sacramento was one of the premiere breast augmentation practices in Northern California.
Dr. Semlacher is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Washington and California Medical Societies, and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
The Benefits of a Mommy Makeover
Because a mommy makeover is a combination procedure, it can offer several benefits:
- The body is restored to its pre-pregnancy appearance after pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. If desired, the breasts can be made even larger than they were before pregnancy.
- The breasts regain fullness and volume.
- The lower abdomen looks fitter and more contoured thanks to the reduction of excess fat, skin, and/or sagging muscle tissue.
- Only a single recovery period is required, meaning less downtime and reduced recovery cost.
Is a Mommy Makeover Right for Me?
Any woman whose breasts and lower abdomen have experienced major changes due to pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding may be an ideal candidate for a mommy makeover. Women who are at or near their ideal weight are the best candidates, since future weight changes can negatively impact results.
Good mommy makeover candidates are in overall optimal health, are non-smokers, and have realistic expectations regarding the results of this procedure. They should be fully recovered from giving birth and must not have breastfed for several months. This gives the breasts time to settle into their new shape and size.
A mommy makeover is not recommended for women who plan to have more children, since this can negatively affect the procedure’s results.
Your Consultation
Before a date can be set for a surgical session, you must meet with Dr. Semlacher for an initial consultation. During this consultation, you will be able to communicate your aesthetic goals to Dr. Semlacher and can ask any questions that you may have.
The two of you will go over your complete medical history, which includes medications you are currently taking, any allergies you have, and any procedures you have undergone. A physical examination will also be conducted. Once Dr. Semlacher has ascertained that the procedure is right for you, he will create a surgical plan and set a date for the procedure.
What Is the Surgery Like?
At the start of the mommy makeover, anesthesia will be administered. Because it is an extensive procedure, general anesthesia is usually chosen for it.
A breast augmentation involves the creation of incisions. These can be made in the armpit (transaxillary), in the breast fold (inframammary), or around the areola (periareolar).
The transaxilliary incision leaves the breasts free of any post-surgical marks. The inframammary incision is ideal for inserting larger silicone implants, because it offers a wider access point; post-surgical marks are hidden in the natural breast fold. The periareolar incision offers effective camouflage of post-surgical marks in the areola’s border.
Once the incision is made, a pocket is created in the tissue of the breast so that the implant can fit snugly. The implant is then inserted and positioned. Finally, the incision is closed using sutures.
A mini tummy tuck features a horizontal incision across the abdomen, between the belly button and the pubic hairline. After Dr. Semlacher has gained access to the underlying tissues, he will tighten muscles with internal sutures, remove excess skin with a scalpel, and suction out excess fat with liposuction. The incision will then be closed using stitches and dressed appropriately.
What Is Mommy Makeover Recovery Like?
Dr. Semlacher will give you post-operative care directions, which you must follow diligently to ensure the best possible results and lower the chance of any complications.
During the healing process, you will need to wear a post-surgical elastic garment. These garments aid in the reduction of swelling and help the skin better fit the body’s new contours.
It helps to use several pillows to prop up your back and more under your legs to keep them slightly bent. These will reduce the tension on your incisions and minimize discomfort.
Taking some time off from work will be necessary, as will avoiding physically taxing activities like heavy exercise and sports. When you come in for a follow-up appointment, Dr. Semlacher will check on your recovery progress and remove your stitches.
Once the swelling has ameliorated and incision healing is complete, you will be able to enjoy the full results of your mommy makeover.
